Covid-19: New Deaths Reported, Infection Rate Steady In CT; Latest Breakdown Of Cases By County

In the past week, Connecticut hospitals recorded 30 new virus-related deaths - up from approximately a dozen a week prior - bringing the total up to 8,751 statewide as of Thursday, Oct. 28 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The daily positive COVID-19 infection rate of those tested in Connecticut has been fluctuating in the past week, up to nearly 3 percent before dropping down to 1.77 percent of those tested on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

On Oct. 27, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said that there were more than 25,000 COVID-19 tests administered statewide, resulting in 443 new laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus.

Three more COVID-19 patients were discharged from Connecticut hospitals, bringing the total being treated down to 191.

Of those hospitalized, approximately 75 percent are unvaccinated.

Connecticut continues to be among the quickest in administering the COVID-19 vaccine per capita, with 2,596,024 residents receiving at least one shot, while 2,403,984 have completed the vaccination process.

A breakdown of which populations have received the most vaccines, by age group on Oct. 28:

  • 65+: >95 percent
  • 55-64: 91 percent;
  • 45-54: 83 percent;
  • 35-44: 83 percent;
  • 25-34: 76 percent;
  • 18-24: 7q percent;
  • 16-17: 80 percent;
  • 12-15: 70 percent.

The latest breakdown of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Connecticut since March 2020, by county:

  • Fairfield: 112,387 (11,914 per 100,000 residents);
  • New Haven: 105,357 (12,326);
  • Hartford: 98,496 (11,046);
  • New London: 27,451 (10,351);
  • Litchfield: 17,103 (9,484);
  • Middlesex: 14,901 (9,173);
  • Windham: 13,325 (11,410);
  • Tolland: 11,344 (7,526).
